National Maritime Museum

I wanted to go and have a look at the ships at the Maritime Museum, but never got round to it, due to the fleet review they had a special offer on at the museum where you could gain entry to the museum and also to the tall ships (old sailing ships) that were there for the fleet review weekend. So I bought a ticket and went down for a look.

As you can see there were LOTS of sailing ships here that weekend.

You could walk on nearly all the ships and just have a look around.

Some of them were really tall (I can now see where they got their name "Tall Ships" from!)

The museum houses an old war ship (HMAS Vampire) and an old submarine.

Because it was such a busy weekend the submarine was close off :(, but you could walk literally all over the battleship, and it was massive!

This tall ship (The Lord Nelson) was on a voyage from Southampton to Australia then back again. It was going to take them 2 years to complete this! All the crew were volunteers and the ship was custom built for disabled people, so that they can sail the ship with the help of the crew.

The museum also has a Viking boat.

And one that look like it should have been in pirates of the Caribbean!
